The
Desert Peach is Pfirsich Rommel, the gay younger
brother of Erwin Rommel. The able commander of a German army
battalion and the understanding father figure to a gaggle of
ne'er-do-well would-be soldiers, the Peach is a man of integrity and
peace thrust into a conflict he finds appalling. He is intensely
loyal: to his men, his brother, his lover, and his country. But
he always finds himself torn: between ideals and duty, love and
conscience, responsibility and regulation.
"If Ronald Firbank and Joseph Heller scripted, Frank
Pape penciled and Aubrey Beardsley inked a comic; the result would be
Donna Barr's The Desert Peach."
Paul DiFilippo, Washington Post Book World.

In a
world savaged by strange magics, the Geiselthal valley is a rare area
of peace and relative prosperity. Stinz Lowhard and his family are
half-horse farmers just trying to make a living.
"What is extraordinary about the Stinz stories is how
well thought-out and believable they are. The half-horses are not
inaccessible, lofty, mythological creatures, but earthy beings with
both human and horse characteristics." - D. Aviva
